About Pressure BioSciences Inc.

Pressure BioSciences, Inc. (OTCQB: PBIO) is a leader in the development and sale of innovative, broadly enabling, pressure-based solutions for the worldwide life sciences industry. The company’s products are based on the unique properties of both constant (i.e., static) and alternating (i.e., pressure cycling technology, or “PCT”) hydrostatic pressure. PCT is a patented enabling technology platform that uses alternating cycles of hydrostatic pressure between ambient and ultra-high levels to safely and reproducibly control bio-molecular interactions (e.g., cell lysis, biomolecule extraction). PBIO’s primary focus is in the development of PCT-based products for biomarker and target discovery, drug design and development, biotherapeutics characterization and quality control, soil & plant biology, forensics, and counter-bioterror applications. Additionally, major new market opportunities have emerged in the use of its pressure-based technologies in the following areas: (1) the use of its recently acquired PreEMT technology from BaroFold, Inc. to allow entry into the biologics contract research services sector, and (2) the use of its recently-patented, scalable, high-efficiency, pressure-based Ultra Shear Technology (“UST”) platform to (i) create stable nanoemulsions of otherwise immiscible fluids (e.g., oils and water) and to (ii) prepare higher quality, homogenized, extended shelf-life or room temperature stable low-acid liquid foods that cannot be effectively preserved using existing non-thermal technologies. UK lawmakers warn citizens' rights at risk in no-deal Brexit

Jul 19, 2019

BRUSSELS — British lawmakers were meeting with the European Union's chief Brexit negotiator on Friday, seeking an iron-clad guarantee that the 1.3 million U.K. citizens in the bloc won't have their rights removed and their lives disrupted if Britain leaves the EU without a deal. The rights of U.K. citizens living in the 27 other EU nations, and of the more than 3 million EU citizens in Britain, are one of the thorniest issues of the Brexit negotiations. Their rights to live, work and study are protected under an agreement struck between the two sides — but the divorce agreement...

Sea-Watch 3 captain calls for EU action on migrants rescues

Jul 19, 2019

ROME — A German humanitarian ship captain who eluded an Italian effort to block her from docking at an Italian port with migrants onboard has called for the European Commission to do its best to avoid new political standoffs. Carola Rackete, captain of the Dutch-flagged Sea-Watch 3, was questioned by Italian prosecutors in the Sicilian city of Agrigento on Thursday for allegedly aiding illegal immigration. Rackete was arrested June 29 for entering the Italian port of Lampedusa, ignoring a block imposed by far-right Interior Minister Matteo Salvini. She was also accused of hitting an Italian border police boat as she...

EU fines chipmaker Qualcomm for 'predatory pricing'

Jul 19, 2019

BRUSSELS — The European Union on Thursday fined U.S. chipmaker Qualcomm $271 million, accusing it of "predatory pricing" to drive a competitor out of the market. EU Antitrust Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said the U.S. company was abusing its market dominance in 3G baseband chipsets and sold below cost to force startup Icera out of the market. Icera was seen as a rival that could eventually threaten Qualcomm's dominance, Vestager said. Vestager said the market was too important to tolerate such abuse. "Baseband chipsets are key components so mobile devices can connect to the internet. Qualcomm sold these products at a...

Italy, FBI crack down on Mafia clan with Gambino ties

Jul 19, 2019

ROME — Italian police and FBI agents have cracked down on a Palermo-area Mafia clan with ties to the U.S.-based Gambino crime family. Police said that around 200 officers including FBI agents fanned out in Sicily and in the New York area Wednesday, arresting 18 suspects in Italy and one in the United States. Palermo Police Chief Renato Cortese told reporters that members of the Sicilian Passo di Rigano crime clan had settled in the U.S. in the 1980s after surviving a turf war with the Corleone crime clan, which emerged victorious over the Inzerillo crime family in the Palermo...

EU probes Amazon over use of retailer info to gain edge

Jul 19, 2019

BRUSSELS — The European Union is opening a new front in its quest to more closely regulate big tech companies, saying Wednesday it was investigating whether U.S. online giant Amazon uses data from independent retailers to gain an illegal edge when selling its own products. EU antitrust Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said she is taking a "very close look at Amazon's business practices and its dual role as marketplace and retailer, to assess its compliance with EU competition rules." In addition to selling its own products, Amazon also allows third-party retailers to sell their goods through its site. Last year, more...
